Just got my Puddle light system from Japan today. I am stoked to put them on. What they do is shine a bright LED towards the ground via your sideskirts, hence puddle light which at night you can see if you stepping into a puddle or some shit on the ground. They turn on when you unlock the car and turn off as your dome light shuts off.
